Songwriter’s round – Nashville Goes to Hollywood

http://www.musicnewsnashville.com/songwriters-round-nashville-goes-to-hollywood

Following their SRO appearance at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Sandra Piller and Jane Bach are bringing a songwriter’s round to the Gardenia Lounge in Hollywood, CA, on Thursday night, January 26.

“This will be an evening of quiet excitement,” says Piller, who will be performing numbers from her current Shady Hill Records (www.shadyhillrecords.com) album, “Days Like These.” Leading the evening will be Jane Bach, writer of hit songs for Reba McEntire, Jo Dee Messina and others. A frequent performer at writer’s rounds in cities from coast to coast, Bach will be the host as well as one of the singers. “A writer’s round program is one of the best ways for an audience to get up close and personal with the writers and their songs,” Bach notes.

Appearing with Piller and Bach will be singer-songwriter Kelly Fitzgerald and guitarist Brian Pothier. Fitzgerald has toured all over the world as a solo and ensemble performer, sharing the stage with artists such as Shelby Lynne, Nancy Griffith, Vonda Shepard, Cheap Trick, Eddie Money, the Gin Blossoms and many others.

The event, “Songwriter’s Round with Sandra Piller and Jane Bach,” will run from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. and reservations are recommended.

Bach has collaborated on songs with major and indie recording artists and was producer of Piller’s most recent album. She is a strong supporter of the writer’s round format: “I have participated in rounds in Nashville as well as in Los Angeles and New York City,” Bach states. “It’s a great way for people to hear the songs sung by the songwriter. There’s nothing quite like it. And you never know when you’ll be hearing a song that will become the next big hit,” she adds.

“A songwriter’s round is a terrific experience for both audience and performer,” notes Piller. “Presenting songs this way really makes you focus on the music and lyrics. I really look forward to taking part in events like this!”

The Gardenia event will follow the classic format of the round, where each songwriter plays one their songs, followed by the next writer, and the next, and so on. They can join in with each other, add harmonies, contribute a guitar riff, perform a little percussion, or just listen along with the audience.

Piller and Bach most recently appeared in a writer’s round at the famed Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. “The place was packed,” Piller notes. “They really love songs and songwriters in Nashville.” These types of programs encourage conversation between the writers, giving the audience an opportunity to hear creative interact almost as if in their own living rooms. “This is the perfect chance to hear songs performed the way they were originally written,” Bach states. “Plus, in a round, you’ll find that writers often discuss how they got the ideas and what happened when the songs got recorded.”

The Gardenia is located at 7066 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90038. Phone: (323) 467-7444. The club is on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and La Brea Ave. and street parking is available. There is a ten dollar cover and a two drink minimum (minimum waived with dinner reservations). Showtime is 9:00pm. Dinner served from 7:00pm and there is a full bar.

Sandra Piller Celebrates 'Days Like These' on Her New Album

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18, 2011  -- Sandra Piller's third album, "Days Like These" (Shady Hill Records), is released today, and Sandra met with press, industry and fans in a special performance at The Mint in Hollywood. Making the week even more eventful, Sandra was just named Female Country Music Artist of the Year by New Music Weekly magazine.

The appearance in front of a standing-room-only crowd celebrated an album that has already received strong response to the title track, which is currently #5 on the New Music Weekly Top 30 Indie chart and #82 on the Music Row chart. The first single from the album, "I Cross That Bridge," was #1 on the New Music Weekly charts for three weeks.

The album is full of songs with emotional resonance, often celebrating the simple joys of life as in these lines from the title song – "Sunday morning wake up early, Feel the sunshine on my face, Lazy day no need to hurry anywhere, Just keep my spirit in a state of grace."

With radio airplay on country and Christian radio stations nationwide, YouTube videos and impassioned fan response, Sandra is fast becoming a name to reckon with in a business she entered only a few years ago. "I love almost everything about country music, from the stories and the emotion, to the musicians and the sound," Sandra states, "and it's such an honor to be working with some of the most-respected songwriters in the business."

Songs on "Days Like These" were primarily written by Nashville veteran Jane Bach who has composed hits for Reba McEntire, Collin Raye, and Jo Dee Messina.

The album was produced in Nashville by Bach with Executive Producer, legendary country music icon Cowboy Jack Clement.

Most of the tunes lift the spirit and touch the soul, while some are just good old fashioned dance numbers, which is creating a lot of kick-up-the-heels fun among Sandra's loyal following of swing dancers in the Los Angeles area.

Sandra's live show features a new band under the direction of Loren Gold, who has worked with Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, Melissa Etheridge and tours for American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.

Kindred Spirits, the second CD from country artist, Sandra Piller, is the perfect title for a collection of finely crafted songs co-written by some of Nashville's finest writers.

Starting off with a surprising rema ke of Exile's "I Could Get Used To You" (the first single), the album was produced by rock and country legend and pedal steel guitar master, Marty Rifkin, whose credits include Tom Petty, Dwight Yoakum, Jewel, LeAnn Rimes, and Bruce Springsteen.

Songwriters on the CD include 25-year Nashville songwriting veteran, Jane Bach (Reba McEntire, Collin Raye, JoDee Messine), and Carol Chase (longtime members ofLynyrd Skynyrd). Reaching into her own family treasury, Sandra puts a signature country spin on songs written by her mother-in-law, Ruth Roberts, the famed sports songwriter of
"Meet The Mets" and "It's A Beautiful Day For A Ball Game" (the Los Angeles Dodger's theme song).

Uplifting, yet soul-searching lyrics characterize Kindred Spirits' thoughtful and heartfelt songs, and upbeat, danceable tracks pay homage to Sandra's loyal following of swing dancers in Los Angeles. A CD that at once embraces joy and pain, it proves to be the sweet awakening of a talented singer and songwriter.
